2 1/2 Years After the Honeymoon

After

Before

So here we are 2 1/2 years after the honeymoon and living in Charleston, South Carolina.  I am a long way from the Bay Area.  We have been in Charleston for a year and a half now and it continues to be an adjustment.  We absolutely love our house. There was no intention of buying a house, but when an opportunity such as the one presented to us, you just can’t say no.  So as luck would have it we found an awesome renovated Charleston Single (half of it was built in 1820 and the other half in 2006) downtown- walking distance to foodie heaven.  The vespas are getting much use with the limited parking and proximity!  We are a 15 minute drive to the beach, our Saturday and Sunday ritual of coffee and dog time on the beach is one to treasure.  Human fetches the ball in the ocean while Puppy tries to fetch her, it’s classic.

Not only did the we move but we are expecting our first baby in January of 2011.   After much pondering and waiting until we were ready, it was time to pull the trigger.  You know, I’m not getting any younger.  Ready or not baby will be here in no time.  As for the gender, that mystery will be solved on delivery day… you have a 50% chance of being right!  Much preparing has gone into this baby thing: reading, becoming more of a consumer than ever, gathering much needed advice and patience.  10 months of an expanding waist and mood swings will prepare anyone to “get it out now” mentality.  I do have to say, one thing I am proud of is the patience I have rub off onto Sudesh.   He has been great throughout this expeience.  I just hope he forgets the “awful” me long enough to go through this whole thing again.

Day 47: Friday, August 8, 2008 “Modified Sideways Tour”

AJ organized a day of wine tasting. Dad originally wasn’t going to go but was easily convinced when he learned he would be the only one at home all afternoon and miss dinner out. We started our tour out at Cambria Winery. Sudesh and I rated the wine fair, not good enough to purchase and we recommend that they let their grapes grow longer. Second winery KVV, again wine fair and only one wine worthy of purchase, we still did not pull the trigger. We kept comparing the wines to Argentina wines. Rancho Sisquoc, only one wine worthy and not at the same time. By this point we are tired of wine and are growing hungry. Sudesh and I fell asleep on teh way to the next winery so we opted for caffeine instead.

Cold Creek Canyon restaurant also a stagecoach stop 100 years ago. The atmosphere was quaint and Dad and AJ thought it was warm, but Sudesh and I thought the temperature was just right Dinner was good, nothing spectacular.

Finished off the night watching the opening games as a family… making jokes and fast forwarding though the commercials what more could you ask for?

Sudesh says: I really have to say that the central cost is really beautiful Mel’s folks are always really wonderful hosts. I always enjoy waking up and watching HBO in HD while surfing the web.

Day 46: Thursday, August 7, 2008 “Farmers Market, out of BBQ?”

It was nice to sleep in and not have a wake-up call.  AJ went to work and Dad, Sudesh and I went to breakfast at Cowgirl.  Western breakfast was something I had been craving for the past 8 weeks.  The French toast complimented the coffee quite nicely.  Lunch was at a local Mexican taco stand, yum, it was just what Sudesh had been craving.  After a lazy afternoon we headed to the movies to see “Mummy”.  We were all entertained for several hour but didn’t think it was the greatest “Mummy” made.   Next, we headed  to  San  Luis  Obispo  to show Sudesh the  Farmers Market.   We  walked up and down the street looking at the local produce and booths.  Both Dad, Sudesh and I bought  Obama  bumper stickers.  I also  picked up a button for my work bag.  Go OBAMA!!

There were at least 5 BBQ places to choose from for dinner.  We finally picked and while in line we watched them scratch off different items off the menu, thus making our choices for us.  I settled on the pork brisket, Sudesh the kabasa, and Dad the ribs.  I was disappointed, I really wanted tri-tip and they were all out.  Sudesh ate the pork brisket, I ate the garlic bread and beans and Dad happily ate his ribs.  Sudesh tried a Mexican salad since he was unsatisfied with his meal too.  We topped off the night with strawberry parfait and a chocolate éclair.

All in all it was a nice day hanging with Dad.

Day 44: Tuesday, August 5, 2008 “Worst City Tour of our Trip”

Yesterday we booked an 8am Hong Kong Island tour.  We were picked up on time and headed to the first stop on the tour was a Taoism temple.  It was cool with the incense burning and the people meditating.  We purchased some incense to take home and share with our friends.  Next stop, Victoria Peak.  We took the tram up to the top and saw Hong Kong from it’s highest peak, awesome!  We had some time and stopped at a cafe overlooking Hong Kong where we ate breakfast.

Next stop was the old fishing village.  We were told that the boat ride was optional, but the only way to get to the fishing village was by boat.  We weren’t interested in paying more money to ride a boat and see another tourist trap so we took a cab to the next stop on the tour, Stanley Market.  We wanted to get some shopping done before  we headed out to Macau, yes this time passport with in the backpack with us.  Stanley Market was 20 minutes away from the last stop and cost $70 Hong Kong dollars for another tourist trap.  We walked around quickly, purchased some gifts and decided to not wait for the group and hitch a ride back to the hotel. We grabbed the bus and headed to the computer center.  Sudesh was interested in buying a computer, the one I am typing on now, and wanted to check them out again.  He hemmed and hawed over the purchase.  We ended up taking the MTR back and forth from technology areas to check prices.  He finally purchased one.  We lost track of time and again it was 8pm, late to head to Macau and back for our early flight back to the States the next day.  Sudesh ended up going to another computer area and I headed to do some last minute at the Ladies Market.  We met back at the hotel and tried one more attempt at Pekings.  It was a success and now we know why it is so busy, the food was excellent.

We packed up our stuff for our 7:20 am pick up the next morning.
